SEXUAL SINS
We have included a number of scriptures that will help people in this area. Knowing these scriptures will enable you to effectively minister when you are faced with various sexual issues.
Sex was God’s idea for procreation and intimacy was designed to be enjoyed within the marriage union. Any kind of focus on sex outside of marriage (affairs, adultery, pornography, fantasies, masturbation, homosexuality, etc.) ruins people because it conditions their mind to have sexual needs met by someone other than their spouse.
Here are a few of the things we learn from scripture that relate to sexual sins:
It makes people feel unclean…like a dirtiness they can’t be cleansed of
The will of God is that we be holy and learn to control our bodies
There is a price to pay for everything you do
Our body is meant for the Lord
It takes His power to abstain from sexual impurity
Sexual sin is against your own body and destroys it
After you receive Christ, your body is not your own. You do not have the rights over it.
Romans 6:13-14 “And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.”
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.”
Colossians 3:1-5 “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”
1 Thessalonians 4:3-7 “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.”
Encourage the individual to commit or recommit their body to the Lord by praying:
Dear Lord, I renounce any and all misuses of my body as an instrument of unrighteousness and by so doing, I ask You to break all bondages Satan has brought into my life through that involvement. I confess my participation. I now present my body to You as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto You, and I reserve the sexual use of my body only for marriage. I renounce the lie of satan that my body is not clean, that it is dirty or in any way unacceptable as a result of my past sexual experiences. Lord, I thank You that you have totally cleansed and forgiven me, that You love and accept me unconditionally. Therefore, I can accept myself. And I choose to do so, to accept myself and my body as cleansed. In Jesus’ name, amen.
